Safe and Well visits
If you work with vulnerable people please share this information below about the North Yorkshire Fire and Rescue Service Safe and Well visits.
The North Yorkshire Fire and Rescue Service Safe and Well visits are home fire safety checks. By appointment and at the homeowners convenience, they provide home fire safety advice which is person centred, looking at the most common fire risks and hazards. In some cases they can install smoke detection and other devices depending on the risk level.
The visits involve fire safety advice, including:
- how to reduce and prevent fires
- looking at any possible fire risks in your home
- information about bedtime routines to help keep you safe at night
- helping you to think about an escape plan
- checking you have working smoke alarms and know how to test them.
As part of their enhanced visits, North Yorkshire Fire and Rescue Service can also give advice about health and wellbeing, as well as fire safety information. This may include where to find support and further advice on:
- giving up smoking
- avoiding falls
- keeping your home warm
- living with dementia.
You can also have a look at the Online Home Fire Safety Check. This is an free online tool that anyone can use and goes through a home fire check. If certain triggers are hit, it will suggest details are passed on to the Fire Service so they can do a home visit. It is translatable into over 50 languages and it is also post code based.
