A warm welcome to our first Age Friendly Ambassadors

We’re really pleased to be welcoming six new volunteers who have joined the Age Friendly Network as our first Age Friendly Ambassadors.

Over the coming months, our new ambassadors will be supporting and speaking up for older people across North Yorkshire. As friendly, familiar faces of the Age Friendly Network in their local areas, they’ll be sharing updates and resources, raising issues that matter to older residents and helping to build strong connections within their communities.

Introducing the ambassador role is an exciting step for the network – driving stronger connections to what’s happening on the ground. Working with ambassadors in different places across the county, the network will gain a better understanding of local experiences.

A positive moment for the network

After meeting with the new Ambassador team, North Yorkshire Councillor, Caroline Dickinson – the council’s Older People’s Champion – shared why this feels like such a positive moment for the network.

“We need people in different areas so that we can hear the voice of local people,” she said.

She also spoke about the important part volunteers play in everyday community life, especially when it comes to listening to older residents and spotting issues early.

“Volunteers are really important, especially in the community, because they’re in contact with everybody and can find out things that other people can’t.”
