North Yorkshire Safeguarding Adults Board (NYSAB) Workforce Champions
North Yorkshire Safeguarding Adults Board (NYSAB) have launched a brand-new Workforce Champions Programme!
This is an exciting development designed to strengthen safeguarding adults awareness, confidence and good practice across organisations in North Yorkshire.
What is the North Yorkshire Safeguarding Adults Board?
NYSAB is a statutory board under the Care Act 2014, there to keep adults who may be at risk safe from abuse by making sure different organisations work together better. It also aims to raise awareness of safeguarding across all organisations and with the public. Safeguarding simply means to keep people with care and support needs safe.
Why are they launching Workforce Champions?
The programme aims to support staff in feeling more informed, engaged and confident about safeguarding. The board knows there are still gaps in how well its messages reach the community and the scheme aims to close that. By creating a network of champions, the board aims to empower interested staff or volunteers to play a part in improving safeguarding from within their everyday role. Champions can be from any part of the workforce in any role; they just need an interest in safeguarding adults and a willingness to share learning.
What will Workforce Champions do?
- Support staff to recognise early indicators of abuse and neglect.
- Share NYSAB comms, learning, and resources with colleagues.
- Promote a culture of continuous learning by sharing good practice and lessons learned.
- Strengthen two-way communication between NYSAB and the workforce and volunteers.

In return the champions role can be as much or as little as you make it. This can range from simply sharing information and following our social media, to leading safeguarding adults themed discussions at work using provided prompts or promoting learning from resources. The main goal is to raise more awareness, creating safer environments, supporting colleagues and ultimately helping to improve outcomes for adults at risk.
