Celebrating community connections at Filey Fields

9 October 2025

Age UK North Yorkshire Coast and Moors hosted their third annual celebration of the International Day of Older People at Filey Fields on 1 October — and what a fantastic afternoon it was!

The event was packed with activities and entertainment for the over-50s community in Filey. Visitors enjoyed lively pig racing from the Filey Lions and the chance to connect with a wide range of local organisations offering advice and support. There were even free blood pressure checks, and refreshments of coffee, tea and scones were kindly provided by Farmhouse Eatery, located inside Filey Fields. The venue itself was generously donated for the afternoon by manager Gail Speight, helping make the event even more special.

Community First Yorkshire was proud to be part of the celebration, sharing information about our Age Friendly Network and the support we offer to local charities, voluntary organisations and community groups. From morning coffees and chats to discovering new ways to connect and collaborate, the day was filled with the spirit of togetherness that defines Yorkshire’s communities.

“It’s great to see Community First Yorkshire as part of the event today and to explore how we can all work together to support people,” said Alex Parker, Chief Executive Officer at Age UK North Yorkshire Coast and Moors. “It’s a fantastic networking opportunity – everyone’s so welcoming, and there’s a real sense of partnership.”

The Age Friendly Network helps organisations and residents come together to create places where older people can live well, stay connected and feel valued. Events like Filey Fields are an important reminder of how small actions – a friendly chat, shared ideas, or a new partnership – can make a big difference.

We’re grateful to everyone who stopped by our stand to say hello, find out more about our work, and share their experiences. Together, we’re building a Yorkshire where people of all ages can flourish.
