Our day at Ripon Cathedral’s Rural Housing Conference
We were delighted to attend Ripon Cathedral’s recent Rural Housing Conference, bringing together partners from across the sector to explore practical solutions to one of the biggest challenges facing rural communities today.
Across villages and small towns, a lack of appropriate and affordable housing is making it harder for people to remain in their communities and for those communities to thrive.
A focus on the positive
The conference focused not only on these challenges, but also on the positive impact that affordable housing can have – helping sustain local economies, support vibrant communities and create well-designed, sustainable places to live. Through a mix of expert speakers, panel discussions and interactive ‘discussion stations’, the day created space for honest conversation, practical insight and new connections, with a strong emphasis on partnership working as the key to delivery.
On-the-day reactions
During the day, we caught up with a range of attendees to hear their perspectives on the discussions, challenges and opportunities facing rural housing. Watch our short highlights video to see what they had to say.
Commenting, Community First Yorkshire chief executive, Jane Colthup said:
“It was a great day and fantastic to see so many people coming together. The discussions were lively and positive, with a real focus on how affordable housing can strengthen communities and support thriving rural areas.”
It was a powerful reminder that, while the challenges are significant, affordable housing has a vital role to play in shaping resilient, sustainable rural communities across North Yorkshire.
