Research on barriers to employment North Yorkshire

Four people stand in a circle indoors, casually talking and holding mugs. In a friendly office setting with plants and shelves, they discuss barriers to employment whilst appearing engaged and supportive of each other's experiences.

Navigator Insight, on behalf of York and North Yorkshire Combined Authority (YNYCA), is carrying out research to better understand the barriers people face when finding or staying in work.

They are keen to hear from individuals as well as community groups and support organisations across the region.

They are particularly interested in speaking with people who are not currently in paid employment, especially those in the following groups:

  • Young people aged 16–24
  • Adults aged 50–64
  • People who are economically inactive due to long-term sickness
  • People living in rural areas

There are several ways to take part:

  • Community group visits (no voucher provided)
  • 1-to-1 interviews (phone, Zoom, or face-to-face, up to 1 hour) – includes a £40 thank-you voucher
  • Focus groups (online or in-person in York, up to 90 minutes) – includes a £50 thank-you voucher
