Farewell from Jane Colthup, Chief Executive of Community First Yorkshire

A smiling woman stands in front of a river weir and a stone building, representing local community engagement.

On leaving Community First Yorkshire, I’d like to take this opportunity to reflect on the last 5 yrs. They’ve passed in a flash, and at times it’s felt like a roller coaster with all the accompanying heart-stopping and thrilling, but occasionally bruising moments such a ride entails.

It has been an absolute honour to work with such hard-working and dedicated colleagues. The drive and tenacity it takes to work in such a punishing environment is awe-inspiring. Your focus on the communities and beneficiaries we serve is unwavering.

I feel very lucky to have worked alongside brilliant partners, both across the public and VCSE sectors. I think our region is unique in the strength of its relationships. Much of this is down to the understanding that there is a human behind every individual professional. This understanding helps us to remain connected and relatable even if the conversation is challenging and that is so important.

I’m conscious I’m leaving a changing environment, but I know that both the VCSE and public sector can rise to the challenges. I remain connected as part of Action with Communities in Rural England’s board and YNYCA’s Business Board and Community Wealth Building Commission which will keep me involved.

I am hugely fortunate in being able to hand over to Dena Dalton, who’s previously been my deputy and our Head of Health Collaboration. I can think of no one better to take Community First Yorkshire forward, and knowing how ably she would take the reins, made of the organisation I feel so passionately about so much more palatable for me.

Thank you allowing me to be part of your world. Please keep on working for thriving Yorkshire communities – the difference you make is essential and the team at Community First Yorkshire remain ready to support your endeavours. Go well!
