Celebrating the International Day of Older People in Filey

Our Age Friendly Network was out and about in Filey this week, joining local people and organisations to celebrate the International Day of Older People.

This year’s theme, ‘What’s on Your Doorstep?’, encouraged people to think about the people, places, activities and services that help us stay active, connected and independent as we get older, while also recognising some of the barriers that can make it harder to get involved.

Community First Yorkshire colleagues Claire Smith and Catherine Bamford spent the day meeting local people, sharing information about the Age Friendly Network and hearing about what can help people can stay connected in their communities.

They were also joined by Age Friendly Network Ambassador Marilyn, who helped represent the Network on the day.

Commenting, Age Friendly Network Volunteer Co-ordinator Catherine Bamford said:

“We had a great day in Filey, when we also had the chance to meet the Mayor of Filey, Wendy Fenlon accompanied by Councillor Mike Fenlon.

“It was also wonderful to welcome one of our new Network Ambassadors at the event. Marilyn is one of the ‘friendly faces of the Network’, and is doing an amazing job helping us make new connections and feeding back on the experiences and ideas of older people in her neighbourhood.

“A huge thank you must go to Age UK North Yorkshire Coast and Moors and to Filey Fields Court for organising the event and hosting us. And, of course, a big shout out to everyone who stopped by to talk to us and share their thoughts.”
