Counter Terrorism Policing – summer vigilance campaign

A smiling British police officer in uniform stands outdoors. Text reads: “If you see something that doesn’t feel right, tell security or report at gov.uk/ACT. We’ll handle the rest. In an emergency, call 999.”.

With a summer of festivals, sporting events, community celebrations and outdoor gatherings ahead, millions of people across the UK will be enjoying time with friends and family over the coming weeks.

The annual Counter Terrorism Policing summer vigilance campaign encourages everyone to stay alert, trust their instincts and report anything that doesn’t feel right.

Let’s look out for each other this summer by:

  • Staying alert in busy places and at events.
  • Trusting your instincts — if something doesn’t feel right, act on it.
  • Reporting concerns quickly — speak to security staff or report online here.
  • In an emergency, always call 999.

Why it matters

On 30 April, the Joint Terrorism Analysis Centre (JTAC) raised the UK National Threat Level from SUBSTANTIAL (meaning an attack is likely) to SEVERE (meaning an attack is highly likely).

While there is no specific threat to North Yorkshire or York, an attack could happen anywhere — particularly in crowded places and at major events.

Police and security partners continue to work together to protect the public, businesses and public spaces, with security measures regularly reviewed and strengthened in response to the current threat level.

For businesses and organisations

Businesses and organisations are advised to review their protective security plans. Protect UK provides free advice, guidance and learning to help you stay prepared. Find more information here.
