Mentoring can help you grow in your role and make a bigger impact
With applications now open for the next round of our popular Leadership Mentoring Programme, our leadership development and training manager, Mike Hickman, looks in more depth at why it’s suitable for people at all levels, whether or not they think of themselves as leaders. He writes:
Are you looking for space to think, plan and build confidence in your role? Do you want support to tackle challenges and make a bigger impact in your organisation or community? If so, our Leadership Mentoring Programme could be just what you need.
We know that many people working or volunteering in the voluntary, community and social enterprise (VCSE) sector don’t see themselves as ‘leaders’. But leadership isn’t about job titles – it’s about influence, ideas and the difference you make every day. Whether you manage volunteers, run projects, sit on a board, or have recently stepped into a new role, this programme is designed for you.
What is the mentoring programme?
Over six months, you’ll be paired with an experienced mentor who understands the challenges of working in the VCSE sector. Your mentor will offer a safe, supportive space to reflect, plan and explore solutions to the issues you face. Together, you’ll meet once a month for an hour, giving you time to focus on your development without pressure.
Mentoring is a voluntary relationship built on trust and respect. Your mentor won’t tell you what to do – instead, they’ll listen, ask questions and share insights to help you find your own answers. It’s about unlocking your potential and giving you the confidence to move forward.
Why apply?
- Space to think and plan away from day-to-day pressures
- Support from experienced mentors
- Confidence to tackle challenges and grow in your role
- Peer learning opportunities after the programme ends
- And the best part? It’s free to take part.
Who can apply?
