Ripon Cathedral Rural Housing conference

A quaint English village street with stone cottages, a red-tiled roof, and a B&B sign. Outdoor tables sit by the road, trees line the background under a clear blue sky—perfect for a rural housing conference near Ripon Cathedral.

Across our villages and small towns, the lack of appropriate and affordable housing is quietly reshaping communities – affecting whether younger families can stay, whether older residents can remain locally, and whether rural places can truly thrive.

On 12 June, Ripon Cathedral will host a Rural Housing Conference bringing together landowners, planners, housing associations, builders, policymakers and community leaders to focus on practical solutions.

This will be a hands-on, solutions-focused day exploring what rural communities need, how good housing can support thriving places, and what is really stopping delivery – and how we overcome it. Through expert speakers and interactive workshops, the aim is simple: to share ideas, partnerships and approaches that can make a real difference.
