Open Day at Topcliffe & Asenby Village Hall - Sunday 23 March

This month Topcliffe & Asenby Village Hall will be among hundreds of village halls across England that will be celebrating the vital role they play in the community and the importance that volunteering has in keeping them operating.

As part of the week-long celebration (17 to 23 March) our Village Hall is holding an ‘Open Day and Buffet Lunch’ on Sunday 23 March between 11am and 1pm. The lunch will include quiches,  sandwiches, sausage rolls, cakes, scones, biscuits and tea and coffee.

There’ll be a presentation on the large screen showing examples of what goes on in the hall every week. And the volunteers that make the hall ‘tick’ will be present to meet residents and answer questions about its operation.

Across England, it is estimated that over 80,000 people regularly volunteer their time with village halls, from those on management committees who oversee the day-to-day use of the building and its finances, to those who organise events and group activities for the benefit of the local community. Here is Topcliffe and Asenby a committee of just thirteen residents organise a variety of events and ensure that the hall – a hub at the centre of the community – is available for everyone’s use.

Highlighting Village Halls: a special book launch

ACRE will be launching a new book, ‘Halls for All: A History of Village Halls’, to kickstart Village Halls Week 2025 on Monday 17 March. Written by Louise Beaton and David Clark, with a foreword by HRH The Princess Royal, it celebrates village hall volunteers and explores their history, evolution, and future challenges.
