Caring Together North Yorkshire based in Ryedale and Whitby areas of North Yorkshire, is looking to appoint three new Trustees commencing November 2026.

The charity harnesses the skills of volunteers to spend time with the cared for and those who feel socially isolated.

Ideally, one of the new Trustees should have finance and accounting skills to give support to the Chief Officer and the Finance Administrator.

The second new Trustee should ideally have experience in fundraising and enhancing income streams and the third new Trustee experience of the social care sector/volunteering/attracting new volunteers.  The roles are voluntary, home based and there are a minimum of four meetings and an Annual General Meeting within the normal 12-month cycle.

The existing Trustees and part-time staff team are fully engaged, welcoming and constantly strive to develop new and innovative programmes to enhance the Charity’s offer and income streams.

Overview of the Organisation

Purpose: Making a difference through enriching the lives of those who give and receive care and those who may be socially isolated, by creating opportunities for social connection; and harnessing the skills of volunteers.

Impact History: Long-established registered charity operating for over 30 years and supporting more than 4,000 local individuals.

Key Services: Delivery of a volunteer neighbourhood visiting service, community monthly meet-ups, intergenerational connection projects, actual and virtual walking groups, social connection activities such as ‘Tea & Tunes’.

Team Dynamic: Forward thinking, welcoming group of existing Trustees and engaged, part-time staff constantly building innovative community support programmes.

General Role Requirements

• Commitment: Minimum of 4 board meetings, 1 Annual General Meeting (AGM) per 12-month cycle along with ad hoc meetings as and when necessary.
• Location: Home-based/remote position with occasional travel for meetings.
• Status: Voluntary (unpaid role), starting in November 2026.
• Governance Duties: Provide strategic direction, ensure regulatory compliance with the Charity Commission and champion the charity’s local community goals and strategy.

Position 1: Ideal Experience (Trustee with Finance responsibility)

• Professional Qualifications: CCAB background (e.g., ACA, ACCA, CIMA, CIPFA) or equivalent financial experience.
• Accounting Skills: Experience building, auditing, or managing non-profit/SME operational budgets.
• Strategic Planning: Ability to present clear financial information to non-financial Board colleagues.

Position 2: Fundraising & Income Development Trustee

This role guides the charity’s long-term sustainability by building and enhancing alternative revenue streams.

Core Responsibilities

• Advise the Board on commercial opportunities, local donor campaigns and high-value grant pipelines.
• Support the development of diversified, innovative income streams (corporate partnerships, trusts and legacy gifts).
• Shape strategies for community public fundraising events and online digital donation tracking.

Ideal Experience

• Fundraising Record: Proven background in charity fundraising, business development, or corporate relationship management.
• Network Cultivation: Background expanding income streams via grants, trusts, or public-facing initiatives.
• Creative Strategy: Commercial vision to pinpoint creative, scalable ideas that build long-term fiscal resilience.

Position 3: Voluntary Sector/Social Care Trustee

Sector-Specific Knowledge

• Safeguarding Literacy: Understanding duties to protect vulnerable adults from harm, abuse and neglect.

Volunteer Recruitment

• Regulatory Awareness: Familiarity with inspection frameworks and compliance standards (such as the Care Quality Commission in England).
• Funding Landscapes: Understanding how social care is financed, including local authority commissioning, personal budgets and statutory contracts.

Personal Attributes and Soft Skills

• Empathy and Integrity: A strong moral compass aligned with the charity’s values and a genuine care for the community served.
• Collaborative Mindset: The ability to work cohesively within a diverse board of individuals with contrasting professional viewpoints.
• Active Listening: Valuing the lived experiences of service users, staff and fellow trustees before forming conclusions.
