York: Freelance Advisers, Welfare Benefits Unit

Is it time for a new challenge? Welfare Benefits Unit has a roster of freelance advisers who work with them on an occasional basis and are looking for extra advisers to join them.

They are holding a drop-in for interested advisers 9-11am on Wednesday 3 June 2026 and would love to meet you there – register by 29 May 2026.

They are recruiting freelance advisers to work on their second-tier welfare benefits Advice Line (telephone and email). The Advice Line is available from 9am-5pm Monday to Thursday and 9am-4:30pm on Friday. Freelancers are normally based in their York office, working either 9am-1pm or 1pm-5pm.

They receive a wide range of interesting queries, some quite straightforward and others needing more research, information and guidance. The team here will support you during your sessions and they usually talk through more complex cases to ensure that they give as full a response as possible.

Their current freelancer Sarah says “freelancing for WBU is flexible, varied and challenging. I’ve always felt supported and valued by the team and managers who are professional and above all friendly.”

For more information about the role, to register your attendance at the drop-in or to discuss any reasonable adjustments you may need, please contact Advice Service Manager Jules Dymond on jules.dymond@welfare-benefits-unit.org.uk.

The Welfare Benefits Unit is a Disability Confident Committed Employer and are committed to encouraging equality, diversity, and inclusion.

The logo for Welfare Benefits Unit features three diagonal bars—two green and one magenta—forming a stylised W next to grey text, highlighting Welfare Benefits and Freelance Advisers in York on a white background.
